The Great Flood (Movie) Review

I was excited to watch The Great Flood. I enjoy end-of-the-world stories, and seeing a Korean film hit number one on Netflix is still relatively rare. Unfortunately, this one ended up being a disappointment. Despite its title and marketing, the film isn’t really about survival or a catastrophic flood at all. Instead, it leans heavily into AI simulation, which makes the title feel misleading. If you’re expecting a tsunami-driven disaster movie, this isn’t what you’re getting.

Netflix, The Great Flood
Netflix, The Great Flood

The movie starts off like an intense survival story, following a mother and her child as a massive flood closes in on the apartment building they live in. But it doesn’t stay there for long. Instead of focusing on the disaster itself, the film drifts into sci-fi territory, using the flood more as a backdrop to explore artificial intelligence and emotional response.

The cast is solid, with Kim Da-mi from The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion and Park Hae-soo from Squid Game season one. Their performances are convincing and do some heavy lifting in an otherwise dull movie.

🔥 Why You Should Watch

  • Excellent cast

  • A mother and son you can root for

  • Great cinematography

👎 What Might Not Work For Everyone

  • Repetitive

  • The storyline isn’t engaging

  • The disaster element takes a back seat

  • Limited tension

❤️ Final Verdict

I wouldn’t personally recommend this movie unless you’re really into philosophical ideas and questions about artificial humanity.
