👀 Worth Watching? Yes! A wonderfully weird, unsettling, and entertaining horror experience that kept me hooked, even when I had absolutely no idea what was going on.
I was sort of at a loss for words last night. This watch was weird... enjoyable... confusing... but satisfying, sort of. I'm still trying to gather my thoughts.
I binged the entire show last night, expecting an interesting, dark thriller about a man who takes a job as a convenience store clerk, only to find himself fighting for his life when gangsters or loan sharks show up. Maybe the place is a front for something sinister. You know, that sort of thing.
Anyway, I couldn't have been more wrong.
The very first episode shattered those expectations into a thousand pieces of weird as f*ck.
Spoilers ahead!

Now, I have to be honest about one thing. I had absolutely no idea what was going on in this show. I completely failed to understand why the agency was sending people to these jobs. I understood the yin-yang concept, the portals or rifts opening between the two worlds, but what exactly were these people supposed to do? Watch them? Kill them? Survive or die? I honestly had no idea. Who were the non humans? demons from the other world?
It wasn't until I spent some time reading theories about the show that I began to understand it better. So, I wanted to lay it out here with that understanding.
The agency knows exactly where and when these rifts between the two worlds will open. They send desperate people to these locations at those specific times, not necessarily to fight anything, but simply to survive or die. Either outcome serves the same purpose. Their desperate struggle for survival somehow closes these rifts, whether they make it out alive or not.
After reading/watching, that's what I got out of it.

There were so many incredible actors in this drama, but the one I was most excited to see was Choi Hyun-wook! I had absolutely no idea who was going to be in this show, including him!
I smiled with joy when he appeared because he is a true scene-stealer. Whenever he was on screen, my eyes immediately went to him. His energy is awesome, especially in this role as a weird rat-demon thing.
Seeing Sweet Home actress Yeon-ju was great, too! I recognized her by her lips from the very first second she appeared on screen.

Now let's talk more about the plot! During the first episode I had two predictions.
He died trying to commit suicde and this is all a nightmare in his head as he's between worlds.
He is a character in a video game. The main sequence really made it feel this way.
I think the main lesson of the show is probably to be happy with what you have. I think our main character finally understands that in the end, as he sits eating with his family. The director showcases this through nightmarish versions of otherwise ordinary jobs.
I don't know about anybody else, but I found the medical center the most terrifying in a realistic sense, while the movie theater job was easily the eeriest.
I think one of the creepiest things about this show was that it didn't always need monsters to be frightening. Sometimes, the people themselves were disturbing enough. Weather it was faceless people in the teather, the doctors in the medical center or the amusement park piggies. Humans are the ones that bred the most fear in our main.

Clowns have never really scared me. I know some people are absolutely terrified of them, yet this little guy genuinely made me nervous. I think that goes back to my earlier point about people being the scariest. There's someone behind that mask. I never really understood what his deal was, though. Was he an illusion? Why did he turn into that horrific Joker guy later? Based on what I've read, he was from the other world, but WHY DID he go to this job, then?
I don't know. I think I'll forever have questions about this show.
For example, when we got to the construction job in Episode 6, our main character left after beating up the older construction worker who apparently knew his father. We also learn that this was supposedly where his father disappeared twenty years earlier, after taking a job through the Spider Agency.
But here's my question. Why is that building STILL in the same unfinished state twenty years later? Was it somehow frozen in time? Was this another version of the building? Why didn't he ask him everything he could about his father? All the clues should have been there.
One other question I had: Was it all a ruse? The milk delivery, the stockroom, the construction job? Were these jobs ever real, or were they simply excuses to get people to these specific locations at the right time? I'm leaning toward the latter.
And I think that's why I'm having such a hard time putting this review together. I'm simply still confused.
I did still enjoy this show because it was so weird and unique. I kept feeling like, by the time I finished watching, everything would finally click into place. It didn't, but I think I understood the psychological message behind it.
Be happy with what you have. Don't trust something just because it seems too good to be true. Trust your instincts, and most importantly, keep fighting for your family and your own survival.

Episodes 7 and 8 brought us to the grand finale of what might just be the most psychotic job on Earth: the carnival. I didn't write down as many thoughts during these episodes because I was so immersed in what was happening, but there's still so much to talk about.
Firstly, I want to acknowledge that it never even occurred to me that the Sweet Home girl's character could be a non-human entity. If she was, why didn't our main character's energy make her retreat? So when they revealed it, I wasn't shocked. I was confused.
I immediately knew that those outfits in the factories didn't belong to today's era, so I figured she must have been stuck on the other side for 60 years and had only recently come out through that castle area, much like how our main character's father might have emerged from the construction site.
The carnival was immensely creepy, especially the people morphing into their masks! It reminded me so much of Goosebumps! I loved that eerie concept. Also, how cute was Jae-Wook in that wolf outfit? Adorable.
Since we constantly saw our main character experiencing nightmares, I wondered whether his father had been trapped in that world, constantly failing and reliving his own nightmare. But as we saw, he was simply trying to make money with that huge shadow looming over him? So was he a non-human entity now, too? That's what I gathered.
Watching our main character open the castle door and release all those non-human entities from the other side left me with even more questions. The Sweet Home girl seemed to disappear into the darkness with them, so what happened to her? And when we saw the siblings push the door shut, did all those non-human entities die because of their energy?
After all was said and done, he was offered the manager position. I love it! But will he accept?

❤️ Final Verdict
What a Halloweeny watch! I would describe this as a psychological horror K-drama, complete with psychotic visuals, gore, and deeply unsettling humans. This is definitely a unique watch. You may regret watching it, but you'll enjoy the journey! Not really much more to say. I hope you enjoyed this odder-than-normal review, but then again, it was an odder-than-normal watch.
